Leadership Music Defers the Class of 2021

Due to concerns about the Coronavirus/COVID-19, the Board of Directors of Leadership Music has elected to defer the program, which was to begin in September with orientation for the Class of 2021.

According to Leadership Music President Diane Pearson of City National Bank, “Since its formation in 1989, every year Leadership Music has selected a new class of entertainment and community leaders from across the country for its stellar eight-month educational program. We had just begun the selection process for the Class of 2021, having received more than 300 applications.

“A lot of thought and consideration went into how this decision would affect the organization and the class,” she continued. “Safety comes first, and in our current environment, we just could not risk continuing with the program. In the interim, we have created a committee expressly tasked to plan events, educational workshops and volunteer opportunities within the community, keeping alums engaged throughout the year.”

Leadership Music’s Executive Director Deb Linn added, “In the 32-year history of Leadership Music, we have canceled only one program day, so postponing an entire year was not an easy decision. The program year is designed to educate, but more important, class members create lifelong friendships through their shared experiences.”

Additionally, Linn pointed out that the Class of 2020 was unable to complete their program year, which would have ended with graduation later this month. “First the tornado, and then the pandemic. This class has endured so much but remain incredibly resilient. I am in awe of their commitment to one another and to Leadership Music,” she concluded.

“Throughout our history, the organization has faced its challenges,” noted Pearson, “but none like the one we are experiencing now with the worldwide pandemic. Through it all, we are incredibly fortunate to have the continued support of our alums, corporate donors and the music community. We look forward to choosing and welcoming the Class of 2022 next year.”
